October 1-Nov 19, Reception on Nov 26 9:30 am-12:30 pm (8-session series + Reception)

Go more in depth on the teachings from Linda Abbey’s Paint Loose class. Work on composition, wet-in-wet, monochromatic painting, larger paintings. Create monoprints, paint reflections, and of course, a mixed media "snow" painting. Finish the classes off with an art reception consisting of all students’ artwork. Material fee $15 due to instructor at start of class, additional materials needed below. Prime Free, Standard Members $115.

Materials from Paint Loose I class:

  • Sketch book atleast 9x12
  • 5 brushes  including size 32 round
  • Covered palette
  • Watercolor paints:  Cerulean and ultramarine blue,    Cadmium and Alizarin Crimson red, Cadmium and Yellow Ochre yellow, Burnt Sienna and Umber brown and Hookers Green light.
  • Artist white tape

Materials for Paint Loose II class:

  • Gatorboard 31x23inches     (cheap Joes $35.59)  You will use it for years.
  • Arches 140#CP 22x30 paper  pack of 5   (Cheap Joes $37.13)
  • Bristol Board
  •  (Pad 9x12inches, 15sheets Strathmore $8.09 Cheap Joe)   
  •  (Pad 9x12 inches, 20 sheets Fabriano$6.32, Jerry’s  Artarama)
  • Mask fluid and a cheap round brush for it.

Watercolor paints you might enjoy trying:

Cobalt blue, Antwerp blue, Paynes Gray, Permanent Rose, New Gamboge, Cadmium Orange, Brown Madder, Skip’s Green or Spring Green.  Or whatever you like.

Skip’s green is only available at Cheap Joe’s.  The paint was made according to Skip Lawrence’s directions.

Look for paints named for other artists there in the American Journey collection.

Please take pictures of anything that you might like to paint.  Especially, take pictures of reflections – in lakes, in puddles, etc.  Pictures are the next best thing to seeing it in person.

Linda will also provide students with vine charcoal, stick charcoal, pens, conte crayon and other drawing materials.  Linda will supply Strathmore Illustration board, Hake brushes, white wax candles, white acrylic paint, matte medium and tissue paper for the “snow” painting. She also provide the Masonite boards and water buckets.

Brief Bio on Instructor: Linda Abbey is a teacher of art. She taught 4th and 5th grade for 4 years. She was in Title 11 for 14 years in Virginia. She has taught Paint Loose for 17 years in Syracuse, NY, and Florence Italy. She developed the 8 lesson seeing what worked for her. When she learned to draw and paint, she was 36. She loves to see her students "get it".

Due to the need to purchase supplies in advance, cancellations with fewer than 7 days' notice will incur the materials fee. No-show Fee: Prime members will incur a $30 no-show fee for any uncancelled registrations in addition to the class’s materials fee.
