Color Mixing Beginner & Up (2025)

In this 3-week series we will explore the color theory, learn how to ask the three most important questions when mixing a color, tonal values, color temperatures and how to dial in the color you want. Focused skills: assessing the root color, understanding chroma, tonal values and temperatures, dialing in a color you're trying to create.
Required Materials:
- warm & cool primaries (cadmium red, quinacridone magenta, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue, burnt umber or burnt sienna, white)
- #4, 8, 12 flat
- #4, 8 filbert
- fan brush
- palette knife for mixing
- canvas or panel
- palette
- Gamsol in a lidded jar
- linseed oil
- paper towels
