Racial Disparities in Healthcare: A Medical Emergency

Racial Disparities in Healthcare: A Medical Emergency
Wednesday, October 2, 2024 | 6:00pm-8:00pm

Details:

Race has no place in healthcare; however, national data indicates that Black people, Hispanics and Native Americans continue to have higher rates of morbidity, mortality, disease and death than whites.  Join us to hear Dr. M.Norman Oliver, former State Health Commissioner at the Virginia Department of Health and educator in UVA’s School of Medicine, explain how racism has operated and continues to operate in society in a manner which perpetuates inferior treatment in major healthcare institutions.

Seating capacity is limited. To attend virtually, please register here. Register below for in-person attendance.

This event is part of The Center’s 2024 Speaker Series, “The Uncomfortable Truths of Systemic Racism,” developed by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, a group of dedicated volunteers that supports The Center’s healthy aging mission by helping to ensure a welcoming environment for all members of our communities through outreach and the creation of programs and partnerships.
