Gather with fellow World War II buffs to watch a movie matinee on the 4th Thursday of each month, 2:00-4:00 pm

July 24 
This month we will watch the second half of Hitler, The Rise of Evil, a dramatization of Hitler’s rise to power. The depiction covers Hitler’s rise through the National Socialist German Workers Party prior to WWII, as Hitler exploits Germany’s political and economic climates to his advantage. (75 min approx.)

August 28
Join us in watching The Guns of Navarone, a 1961 fictional film with an all-star cast including Gregory Peck, David Niven, Anthony Quinn, Richard Harris and Irene Papas. Allied saboteurs are tasked with infiltrating an impregnable Nazi-held Greek Island to destroy two long-range field guns that are preventing the rescue of 2,000 trapped British soldiers. (2 hr. 38 min.)

September 25 
The Counterfeiters (2007) – Based on a true story and personal accounts, Operation Bernhard is considered by some to be the largest counterfeiting operation in history. Jewish prisoners at Sachsenhausen were tasked to counterfeit British bank notes for the Germans who planned to devalue the currency. (German/French with English subtitles, 99 minutes)
 
October 23
Red White Black & Blue (2007) – After the Japanese bombed Dutch Harbor, the US government evacuated Aleutian residents to southeast Alaska for their protection, excepting the Attuans whose chief declined assistance. The Japanese invaded Alaska in 1942 and took the Attuans as prisoners of war. In 1943, 12,500 US soldiers landed on Attu; 1700 were killed or wounded, while 2100 suffered from non-battle injuries. This documentary covers Japan’s invasion of the Aleutians and America’s fight to retake Attu Island in one of the bloodiest battles of WWII. (86 minutes)
