In this class Katie Hutter will cover colors and why they are important in your painting, turning shapes into form using light, shadows and depth, layering vs ala prima, keys to a strong composition and more! Material List needed is below. Prime Members free, Standard Members $35, Guests $50.

Will Cover:

  • Tools/equipment, paints, brands, retardants, etc. 
  • Brushes: how to use the different kinds, and the marks they make 
  • Colors, Values and why they’re important in your painting
  • Process: steps to making a good painting 
  • Turning shapes into form using light, shadows, and depth 
  • Layering vs ala prima 
  • Keys to making a strong composition 
  • Using Light and Shadow to great effect and creating a central focal point 

Materials List: warm and cool of each: Red, Yellow, Blue; burnt umber/ashphaltum; white; Suggested Brushes: #8, #15 Filbert; #9,11, 14 flat; # 12,13 angled; #7 hake; #4, 5, 6 round; #3 fan, #2 liner brush; palette knife, sponge, paper towels; canvas or primed panels - 11x14”; linseed oil; Paint Thinner such as Gamsol or Odorless Paint Thinner/Spirits.
