Brain Health and Dementia

This one-hour presentation examines brain health generally and addresses several risk factors for dementia specifically with practical steps that individuals can take that may help improve their cognitive health and reduce the risks of developing dementia such as Alzheimer's disease. Three key research studies that helped shed light on the links between exercise, nutrition and cognitive activity and dementia are discussed, followed by a look at nine risk factors: cardiovascular factors, nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, social engagement, hearing loss, head trauma and brain training. Resources for further information on brain health and dementia are also provided. Presented by George Worthington with the Virginia Dept. for Aging and Rehabilitative Services.
