Authors Critique Group
Next session: Monday, October 12, 2026 | 2:00pm-4:00pm
Details:
Meets the 2nd Monday of every month, 2:30-4:00 pm, starting September 14
Authorship is an exhausting and reclusive grind. For novice authors, getting support is nearly impossible in an industry that prioritizes established authors who are practically guaranteed success. The Authors Critique Group is structured to provide early and continual feedback by others with similar background, experience, and motivation. Authors will be able to submit works-in-progress for review. There will be standards and requirements for the work to be accepted. Each month the group will read the works and meet to review them and offer constructive criticism.
This program will be facilitated by Rosanne Vrugtman. Rosanne is a long time member and first president of the Bue Ridge Writers Group. She holds five degrees, including two master's degrees and a Ph.D., and has taught business, academic, research, technical, and creative writing for more than two decades in higher education. She created the Capstone writing curriculum for fourth-year computer science students at UVA's School of Engineering and Applied Science and has taught the course for the past five years. Writing under the pen name Abigail Dane, she is a multi-published, award-winning author of a historical novel series set during the mid-17th-century English Civil War, and she serves as president of Zane Grey's West Society, where her work has included editing and publishing new editions of Grey's writing.
