Travel to Charlottesville’s beautiful French Sister City without ever leaving your seat (at The Center)and become one of the first to take this real time virtual tour of its UNESCO World Heritage Citadel fortress. Crowning one of seven hills and overlooking the historic center of Besançon, La Citadelle is considered a masterpiece of 17th century bastioned architecture.
On this 75-minute “walking” tour, hosted live from Besançon by your guide Hermine, you’ll learn about the construction of the Citadel, its brilliant architect-engineer Vauban, the daily life of those who lived and worked inside the fortress, and its three centuries of history as a strategic military site. Your "walk" will also take you up to the ramparts for stunning views of the surrounding hills and the Doubs River. At the conclusion of the tour, Hermine will open up a time for your questions.
