Open house begins at 4:30 p.m. in The Center’s Rose and Pollinator Demonstration Garden

Gardening educator Shannon Currey, shares her knowledge and expertise about the importance of native plants in creating ecologically sound landscapes. 

Discover how to replace mulch and grass under your trees with diverse native plants that support biodiversity and enhance your landscape. In addition, learn about native perennials that will give you beauty and ecological benefits even if you’re gardening in deer territory. Director of Education and Outreach at Izel Native Plants, Shannon has contributed to national publications and speaks at professional organizations and public gardens, highlighting the significance of native plants in promoting biodiversity and ecological health. She serves on several committees, including the North Carolina Plant Conservation Program Scientific Committee, and has been recognized for her contributions to the plant industry, receiving the Libby Wilder Award in 2021. She is passionate about exploring native flora and advocating for their use in managed landscapes.
