Explore the forces reshaping Europe today, from the impacts of war and energy challenges to shifting power relationships within the European Community. James Sofka offers an engaging update on these regional dynamics, drawing on his expertise in international relations and trans-Atlantic diplomacy.
Instructor Bio
James Sofka specializes in international relations and trans-Atlantic diplomatic and political history. He has taught regularly for the Brookings Institution, the Federal Executive Institute, American Military University, and the University of Virginia's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. He previously taught in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia, where he also served as dean of the undergraduate honors program in the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in politics from the University of Virginia.

Bob Toplin explains why history points toward globalism's staying power, not its decline. A returning favorite, Toplin brings his signature wide-angle perspective to this timely topic.
Instructor Bio
Bob Toplin taught history at Denison University and the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and continued teaching courses at UVA after retiring from full-time teaching. He has published 11 books and more than 150 articles, and has provided historical commentary on nationally broadcast television and radio programs.
