Details:

This is the story of Lake Superior and the Edmund Fitzgerald. The Edmund Fitzgerald was launched in 1958 and at 730 feet, was the largest vessel on the great lakes. In 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald was lost in a violent November storm, with no survivors among the 29 crewmen. Today, the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald remains one of the worst tragedies on the great lakes, and the cause of her sinking remains unresolved.  Let’s explore her final voyage and look at the possible causes for her sinking.

Presented by Bruce Chase in partnership with Westminster Canterbury's Westminster Institute of Lifelong Learning. Bruce has a Ph.D. in chemical physics from Princeton University.  He spent 34 years in the Central Research department of DuPont and served as Chair of the DuPont Fellows for his last four years.  He spent the last ten years in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Delaware, and is now Research Professor Emeritus. His research has involved the use of lasers to probe the structure of high strength fibers
