A visit to the Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia offers a captivating journey into the realm of radio astronomy, set within the serene expanse of the National Radio Quiet Zone*. And as an added bonus, the leaves should be starting their fall display of color! Our guided tour includes science demonstrations and a short film about the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT). Subsequently, you'll embark on a bus excursion into the RFI-restricted Zone I for an up-close look at the observatory's array of telescopes, ranging from pioneering instruments of the 1950s to the world’s largest fully steerable telescope, the GBT. We will explore the 25,000-square-foot Science Center, which features the "Catching the Wave" Exhibit Hall, a 150-seat auditorium, classrooms; the Galaxy Gift Shop; and the lunch on your own at Starlight Café.
