Lighting Up Your Paintings
Next session: Tuesday, March 18, 2025 | 1:30pm-4:30pm
Details:
Join instructor Katie Hutter to explore the transformative role of lighting in paintings. This class will delve into how lighting influences both the appearance of a painting and the emotions of its viewers. You will learn how to create colors as they occur in both lighting and shadows, as well as those important transitional colors. Students will also learn how to set up still life paintings, how to light it correctly, photograph and then paint it.
It all begins with setting up the conditions for a dynamic piece that balances lights, shadows, bright colors and subdues colors in shadows. Students will practice painting both lit colors that are highly saturated and the colors as they shift into shadows. All mediums encouraged. We will be playing with lighting conditions to learn and understand how lighting effects and enhances individual paintings.
