Please note:  There will also be an added class on Tuesday, April 1st.  This session will be an "Ask Philip anything" discussion about things you gathered from the course, shared slides and presentations, etc.  If you have a question that inolves some advanced research, please email your question to Philip before meeting on April 1st.

This course with Philip Schrodt will provide a systematic overview of Buddhist history, approaches, and practices from the perspective of the U.S. in the early 21st century. This 6-week course will first review how Buddhism spread from northeast India through most of Asia and recently to the West, and the three major approaches: Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana/Tibetan. Then it will look at common core concepts in the Buddha's teachings, discussion some of the variety of meditation practices currently practiced, then conclude with a discussion of various ways Buddhism is currently evolving in the US. Free and for Center Members.

*Please note that this course is not intended to "convert people to Buddhism”, but rather provide, from the perspective of a practitioner, a general introduction to a spiritual approach.
