WWII Movie Matinee
Next session: Thursday, July 25, 2024 | 2:00pm-4:00pm

Details:

Gather with fellow World War II buffs to watch a movie matinee on the 4th Thursday of each month.

July 25 and August 22 - We will watch "A Bridge Too Far"  in two parts on July 25 and August 22. This 3-hour film tells the story of Operation Market Garden, the Allied attempt to invade Germany and destroy its war plants, thereby bringing an earlier end to the war. This film features an all-star cast and is considered an accurate depiction of one of the war's biggest blunders which resulted in more Allied deaths than the entire invasion of Normandy.

September 26 -"Operation Mincemeat" is based on a true story about the Allied Invasion of Sicily in 1943. Two British Intelligence officers plan to trick the Nazis and change the course of WWII. Starring Colin Firth, Matthew MacFayden and Kelly MacDonald. 2 h 7m

October 24 - "Ordinary Men" is a documentary about the men recruited by Hitler to carry out the killing of innocent civilians. Who were these men who were so ruthless, so unconscionable? Includes original images of mass killings. Discussion will follow.
