Red White Black & Blue (2007) – After the Japanese bombed Dutch Harbor, the US government evacuated Aleutian residents to southeast Alaska for their protection, excepting the Attuans whose chief declined assistance. The Japanese invaded Alaska in 1942 and took the Attuans as prisoners of war. In 1943, 12,500 US soldiers landed on Attu; 1700 were killed or wounded, while 2100 suffered from non-battle injuries. This documentary covers Japan’s invasion of the Aleutians and America’s fight to retake Attu Island in one of the bloodiest battles of WWII. (86 minutes)
