July 23 - Stamped from the Beginning
Directed and produced by Roger Ross Williams, this hybrid documentary/scripted feature is based on National Book Award-winner Ibram X. Kendi’s non-fiction work of the same name. Using innovative animation and expert insights, the film takes an expansive look at the origin of racist ideas about Black people, including the idea that much of the systemic racism and prejudiced ideas aligned against Black people even now was deliberately created to justify their enslavement and exploitation. (2023, 1h 31m, R)
August 27 - A Bitter Legacy
A documentary about almost secret Citizen Isolation Camps for dissident Japanese American men and some victims of collaborators during 1943 and 1944, punished for questioning authority or having gone to Japan as a child before WWII, labeled Kibei. (2016, 1h 10m)
