Beginner Recorder Lessons
Next session: Monday, June 22, 2026 | 1:00pm-2:00pm

Details:

Meets every Monday, 1:00-2:00 pm

Learn the recorder, make music, stimulate your brain and have fun! Gary Porter, longtime musician and teacher in the American Recorder Society, shares her love of the recorder and the music you can make with it. This class is not your grandchild’s 3rd or 4th grade “pre-band” soprano recorder class. It is an opportunity to introduce you to a genuine instrument of the Renaissance and Baroque musical eras and is for those who have never played recorder before, or who have some basic knowledge and want to know more. Supplemental sets of music will be emailed to class members.

Ms. Porter uses the Suzuki Recorder Method for Alto Vol. 1, Alto part for class instruction. She is particularly fond of the Yamaha ECODEAR Alto instruments with Baroque fingering. Appropriate supplies can be purchased online from the following vendors: Amazon.com, West Music.com, Music & Arts.com, Sweet Pipes.com, Shar Music.com, or Walmart.com

Those who are brand new to playing the insturument and have no experience, please contact Gary.

Those who know alto fingering and already read music can advance to the Intermediate class that meets on Wednesdays from 1:00-3:00 pm using the Suzuki Recorder Method for Alto Vol. 2, Alto part.
