What is a Death Café? A Death Café is simply an informal sharing of ideas about death over coffee/tea and cookies. Why would we want to talk about death? Death is a normal part of life, not a failure to be avoided or hidden...Not talking about it can lead to unnecessary pain and suffering for the living and the dying: we can't plan; we can't prepare, we can't express our thoughts, feelings, and fears. At a Death Café people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and talk about death. Our objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'. A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. They are being held all over the world after starting in the UK. This group will be led by Hospice of the Piedmont. Please call our Welcome Desk 434.974.7756 or email to register.
