Tuesday, June 15   -    Vegan and Vegetarian Diets  

In this third nutrition series, UVA dieticians Madison Gorton and Rachel DuVivier will discuss all things vegan and vegetarian. You will learn the difference between the two disciplines, the health benefits and potential risks of these diets, and reasons one might opt to become a vegetarian or vegan. Making healthy plant-based choices can be nutritionally beneficial as well as challenging - nutritional supplementation and optimal eating habits will also be outlined.

Thursday, June 17  -    Diabetes Nutrition Management 

Megan Tincher and Agape Gooden, UVA dietetic interns, will cover the basics of Type 2 Diabetes, including ways to manage this chronic condition through diet and lifestyle changes. Diabetes management can be confusing and overwhelming, but you can adopt effective management strategies and enjoy greater health and wellbeing.

Wednesday, June 23 - Six Main Nutrients/Intro to MyPlate 

Do you ever feel overwhelmed trying to eat a “healthy” diet based on what you hear from the doctor, on the TV, and on nutrition labels? During this series talk UVA Health dietetic interns Emily Hockstad and Olyvia Norton will simplify nutrition by identifying the six main categories of nutrients in foods and demonstrate how to build a balanced meal using the MyPlate model.
